I Europa och västvärlden firas julen den 25 december, men i Ryssland och Ukraina är den ortodoxa juldagen den 7 januari (på grund av kalenderskillnaden). Enligt den gamla traditionen firar ryska och ukrainska singlar denna underbara helgdag efter nyår.
